Students have saved thousands of dollars by enrolling in critical Fee-Free TAFE Courses in the Northern Territory, making education more accessible and affordable.
Under the Fee-Free TAFE initiative, students pursuing various courses have been exempted from additional costs. For instance, those enrolling in a Certificate IV in School-Based Education Support have saved $3,220, while students pursuing a Certificate III in Community Service have been spared an extra $2,135.
Similarly, those studying a Certificate III in Civil Construction Plant Operations have saved $2,835, and students undertaking a Certificate III in Information Technology have benefited from a reduction of $1,645 in enrolment fees.
Savings for Students: Making Education Accessible and Affordable
Since January, over 600 students have taken advantage of Fee-Free TAFE training places in the Northern Territory. This enrolment surge addresses the anticipated future demand for skilled workers and helps alleviate the existing skills shortages in the region. It is worth noting the commendable achievements made despite the challenges of remote learning in the Northern Territory, and there is a collective commitment to build on this success.
The Australian Government is actively discussing a proposed $3.7 billion five-year National Skills Agreement with state and territory counterparts in Darwin today. This agreement aims to ensure broader access to vocational education and training (VET) by placing TAFE at the centre of these efforts. Furthermore, as part of the 2023-24 budget, the Commonwealth is undertaking fundamental reforms to enhance the delivery of foundation skills training programs. These reforms specifically focus on equipping First Nations Australians and other priority groups with essential literacy, numeracy, and digital literacy skills to fully participate in training and secure employment.

Enrolment Surge: Meeting Future Demand and Addressing Skills Shortages
