Skills Insight JSC, the first of 10 Jobs and Skills Councils (JSC), has been established to enhance Australia’s Vocational Education and Training (VET) system, according to an announcement by the Minister for Skills and Training, Hon Brendan O’Connor, today. Establishing Skills Insight JSC marks a significant milestone in the government’s ambitious program to fortify the nation’s skills and training landscape.

Skills Insight JSC will collaborate with industry stakeholders and various sectors within the skills system to drive improvements in skills and training, specifically focusing on agribusiness and related industries. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to aligning VET with the evolving needs of industries vital to Australia’s society, ecosystems, and economic prosperity.

Expressing gratitude, CEO Michael Hartman, on behalf of Skills Impact, thanked the stakeholders who have actively participated in the organisation’s journey as Skills Impact and supported its application to become Skills Insight JSC. Hartman acknowledged the privilege of working with industries critical to the nation and eagerly anticipated the new role as a JSC. He also welcomed the inclusion of furnishing, textiles, clothing, and footwear industries, expanding the JSC’s purview.

In its expanded role as a JSC, Skills Insight will take a broader perspective on skills issues and explore potential solutions to enhance outcomes for industry, learners, trainers, and employers. Hartman expressed his appreciation for the countless volunteers who have dedicated their time to improving national qualifications and skills standards over the past six years. He emphasised that the nation reaps the benefits when diverse industries receive adequate support and skill development.

With the transition to Skills Insight JSC, the organisation’s team eagerly anticipates engaging in further discussions regarding skills and training needs. They thanked those who share their passion and commitment to workforce development and industry involvement in the skills system.

The establishment of Skills Insight JSC represents a significant step forward in strengthening Australia’s VET system and ensuring it remains responsive to the demands of evolving industries. By collaborating closely with industry stakeholders, Skills Insight JSC aims to drive positive skills development and training changes, ultimately benefiting the economy and the workforce.
