Update on Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol – SITHFAB002 and SITHFAB021
The Commonwealth Department of Employment and Workplace Relations has responded to stakeholder concerns by implementing changes to the assessment requirements of the Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol SITHFAB002 and SITHFAB021. The changes have been made via a minor release process and are effective immediately.
The modifications in the training update involve the removal of references to the impact of excessive drinking on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals and communities. The information was previously included in the knowledge required to complete the tasks outlined in these units’ elements and performance criteria. The table below shows the removed texts. The table below shows the removed texts from the affected units of competency:
| Unit of Competency | Removed Text |
| SITHFAB002 – Provide responsible service of alcohol | • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders |
| SITHFAB021 – Provide responsible service of alcohol | • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities |
What RTOs Need to Do?
Registered Training Organizations (RTOs) that offer training and assessment for these units must review their strategies and resources to ensure that the references to these groups are removed. However, it’s important to note that this does not absolve alcohol service providers from considering the specific needs and risks of different customer groups, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals and communities. RTOs need to update their training and assessment materials to comply with the new requirements.
